DONALD A. PETERS - 1921-2002
The Genius of Donald A. Peters
Rarely throughout the history of art has there been a talent so versatile, so abundant with skill, fantasy and "storytelling" as that of Donald A. Peters.
PRESERVATION AND HISTORY OF THE PRINTS
When the Limited Edition of ALICE was released in the late 90s John Brower, whose principal background has been as an iconic rock promoter going back to the late 60s, was able to acquire 100 of the limited edition of 950. After gifting several to friends and family he put the remainder in climate-controlled storage where they remained until 2019 when they were brought to Toronto with his return. They are now about to be offered in this release with matching numbered certificates of authenticity that accompany each print hand-signed by the artist Don Peters as were each print in the edition. This is truly a remarkable circumstance as Mr. Peters was quite senior at the time of signing and it took many sessions to get the 1900 signatures completed for both the prints and matching certificates.
Despite best efforts, Mr. Peters would often fall asleep as an indication that his energy for the day’s signings was exhausted.
He sadly passed away in 2002 at the age of eighty-one. Over the years these works have been stored in Venice California before coming to Toronto. This is truly a milestone in the history of the Alice In Wonderland story.
